BC Rockies Deaf Hockey - Jan 19, 2008
2007-12-22
We are rapidly approaching the new year and I would like to take this opportunity to update all our players and parents of players on the latest happenings with the BC Rockies Deaf Hockey Team.
Our next planned ice time will be on January 19th 2008 (9:00pm - 10:30pm) at Queens Park Arena in New Westminister, BCDSF has also been given approximately $2,500 towards travel costs for all sports. While this is a low amount, we can go ahead and attempt to reserve some of those funds for the out of town players. If you live outside of the Lower Mainland by 400 kms please email me back with estimates of your travel costs to get to a practice. The sooner I hear from you the better as we need to act before other sports use up the funds.
The BC Rockies team management has some important goals that we need to achieve at the next practice, so I would like to encourage the importance of attending. We plan to move the BC Rockies Team into a BC Rockies Club, and will need to vote in some positions for President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and a PR Rep. This will allow the BC Rockies team more leeway in fundraising and committing goals to the Team.
If we can get the support from the players to be active with the program, and we have success with fundraising we will be able to attend Deaf Hockey Tournaments with travel and accomodations paid for. In the past players would have to pay for a portion of the travel due to a lack of incoming funds through BCDSF. For veterans of the BC Team, they have had to pay for a portion of the travel expenses. Our goal is to make sure that we can raise enough to deffer the costs from the players, but we as players and fans have to show support for the program too. I would also like to book exhbition games with local teams, such as Vancouver Firefighters, CFox Radio Station, and a long term goal would be to play against the Canucks Alumni. I think those goals are achievable, if we can get the support of the players first and foremost.
On May 1-3, 2008, the BC Rockies Team will be attending the Roy Hysen Cup in Whitby, Ontario. With the practices we will be scheduling in January onward, scouting for the BC Team will take place. I should also mention that players attending the tournament in Whitby, will be scouted for the Canadian National Deaf Ice Hockey Team. The Canadian team will be playing in a World cup in 2009 that I believe is tenatively scheduled to take place in Winnipeg and will feature other national teams from Russia, USA, Sweden and more.
We also have future ice reserved at Queens Park Arena on Feb. 16, 2008 (9:00pm - 10:30pm) and will have other ice times reserved as we find ice. We also are tenatively scheduled for Prospera Place in Chilliwack for the month of March, but I will send more details when I've nailed that down.
Just a reminder that some players will have to renew their BCDSF membership fees. I will email those of you who need to pay for memberships individually and remind you, if you are unsure of your status email me right away.
Remember let me know if you can make it to this ice time, this is a very important ice time.
