Attn: All Deaf and Hard of Hearing hockey players

BC Rockies Deaf Ice Hockey

2007-03-15

With the recent appointment of Shawn Mayzes as it's Hockey Commissioner the BCDSF has committed and is dedicating itself to the goal of building the deaf and hard of hearing hockey team (BC Rockies) into a group that plays and practices together on a regular basis each and every year during the hockey season.

Some of the things we would like to achieve are:

  1. beginning next season a series of 3-4 exhibition games vs police/fire teams, radio station teams etc, maybe even vs the Canuck Alumni team. We would try to play in several areas of the Province i.e. Lower Mainland, Vanc. Island and BC Interior.
  2. organize and run practices for various skill levels of the players and to encourage the participation of players of all skill levels.
  3. to raise the awareness of this program in the community and also to raise the awareness of the National Team program. We expect this will help in gaining sponsorship $'s and encourage deaf and hard of hearing youngsters to get involved in the game.
  4. build a program that develops teams here in BC that competes for and wins gold in future National Championships and develops players who are the building blocks of Team Canada.
Regardless of where you live in the province or what your skill level may be, if you LOVE to play hockey and have a minimum hearing loss of 55 decibels in both ears we invite you to join us. We are hoping for a return of all the players who represented BC in Calgary, all the players who didn't accompany us due to injury/ other commitments and all who may not have heard of the program until now.

None of this happens without you the player so if you’d like more information or if you’d like to participate and help us build a strong and long lasting program contact either Shawn Mayzes or Gary McCaw.

Although in it's infancy we'd like you to visit the hockey team's website http://www.bcdeafhockey.com .

Yours in hockey,

Shawn Mayzes
